Upon returning from London, i had to swing by szimpla kis kert in order to catch up with...

Both Bojan and Darko (far right) who was only in town for a long weekend. It was one of those 'aww shucks' lot of friends old and new gatherings.

Last thursday, Budapest had its own verions of the critical mass ride. I had never joined in one of these before. So, i scored a bike for the day, and got ready for some road rage at its finest.

I was a few minutes late for the thing, and figured i'd have to ride and catch up, considering the size of budapest events like this tend to be 10% of what you find in Western Europe or the US.

Actually, i was quite wrong...turned out 20,000 people turned up. Wow. Where are all these people the rest of the year? Oh, that's right, budapest has all of one bike path inside the ring road. Shame. Although it looks like they're building one more on Bajcsy Zs. It's a start i guess.

I began by doing my best salmon impression up Andrassy u.

Simultaneous pic taking and bike riding is harder than one might imagine, especially when going salmon style.

Who invited the goddamned unicycles?

And rollerbladers? Hell, i don't see the logo of the t-shirt showing someone holding their rollerblades over their head... Then again, i'm not one to deny young ladies...rollerblade away, young ladies

Finally i decided to turn myself around and go with the flow, when the traffic had to be held for cars for a few minutes.

Things started backing up at this point.

Whoop, there go the bikes! (the rollerblade ladies were not joining in...)

A lonely dreadlocked soul waits by the basilica

Moving on... i make my first of several run-ins, mista vikta! Complete with 1/2 liter of beer, nice touch.

Heading toward Erzsebet bridge, the red lights start to make a pretty show...

I wasn't the only one taking photos...

Castle still. Bikes fast.

Some mid-bridge rear view photography

I decide to wait a bit by the other side of the bridge

And who rides up but Akos! Again, 1/2 liter in hand. I'm starting to wonder if these hungarian bikes are actually hybrids powered by beer.

Gyuri (anakin) sister plus manfriend. hi!

Another self portrait before moving on...

To see da Zola man himself...here looking like some kind of spiderman/bike messenger super hero

We head back over to pest on Margit bridge

Pass nyugati station...

And conclude at Oktogon, where this friend of Zola's had a fairly high-watt soundsystem attached to the back of his bike, blaring the scorpions . Super major two thumbs up.

The bonfire afterparty at Tuz raktar....and...a long sleep.
